FAIRFIELD HOSTS PUBLIC MEETING ON POND CREEK-LITTLE WABASH FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT TONIGHT

By Mark Wells Feb 23, 2026 | 5:56 AM

The City of Fairfield and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will hold a public informational meeting tonight (Monday) at 6:30 p.m. at Fairfield City Hall, 109 NE Second Street. Officials will present draft watershed plans and environmental assessments, discuss solutions to local flooding, and seek community input.

The proposed project for the Pond Creek–Little Wabash Watershed includes building a deep pool dam and replacing an undersized downstream box culvert, providing both flood control and new recreational opportunities at Lakeside Park. Additional alternatives considered were taking no action, property buyouts, a dry dam, and a shallow pool dam.

Residents, landowners, and stakeholders are encouraged to attend or submit written comments to:
Aaron Pryer, NRCS Watershed Program Manager, 2118 W Park Court, Champaign, IL 61821.

Community feedback will help finalize flood management and conservation plans for the area. For more information, contact Aaron Pryer at Aaron.Pryer@usda.gov or (217) 353-6633.
