Marjorie “Mamaw” Chitwood, 85, of Albion, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, at Wabash General Hospital with her family at her bedside.
Marge was born in Dixon Precinct, Illinois, to Frank and Verdia Smith on October 7, 1940. She spent many dedicated years working at Johnnye Manufacturing and then Champion Labs before retiring to enjoy what brought her the most joy—spending time with her family and being “Mamaw”.
Marge was a woman of creativity and grace. She had a deep love for art in all its forms—whether arranging flowers, drawing, painting, or decorating her home with her personal touch. Her gentle spirit and artistic heart brought beauty into the lives of everyone she met.
Above all, Marge cherished her family. Her greatest happiness came from time spent with her children and grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to share her love, encouragement, and laughter with each of them.
Marge is survived by her daughter, Paula Chitwood; her son, Jeff (Lacy) Chitwood; and her beloved grandchildren, Tyler Harrell, Chloe (Seth) Ray, Brody (Adelie) Chitwood, Noah Chitwood, and Peyton Chitwood. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Verdia Smith; her loving husband, Tom Chitwood; her siblings Kenneth Smith, Cyril Smith, Lester Smith, Dennis (Bud) Smith and Minnie Siefert; and her beloved dog, Penny.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her loved ones in the presence of the Lord, where her spirit can continue to shine in eternal peace.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Nale’s Funeral Home in Albion, Illinois. All who knew and loved Marge are invited to attend and honor her beautiful life.
