Artists and art enthusiasts are invited to add a splash of color to Southeastern Illinois as the 2026 Fairfield PaintOut returns for its 15th annual plein air festival. This year’s event will take place from Tuesday, September 22nd through Saturday, September 26th.
Registration is now open for artists eager to capture the region’s small-town charm, agricultural landscapes, and the stunning 194-acre lake with miles of picturesque shoreline. The festival offers a unique opportunity for plein air painters to come together, create, and showcase their talents in a vibrant community setting.
The registration fee remains $50 per artist and includes most meals and provided housing throughout the week. Organizers are also planning special events, with details to be announced soon.
New artists wishing to participate must submit three high-resolution images of recent, preferably plein air, finished works via email for jury consideration. Returning artists are not required to resubmit artwork.
As part of the festivities, all artists are encouraged to donate a 6” x 6” unframed painting of any subject for a fundraiser auction during the PaintOut. While participation is voluntary, proceeds from the auction help cover event costs, and multiple donations are welcome.
The registration deadline is June 15th, but slots may fill quickly. If all openings are filled before the deadline, additional registrants will be placed on a waitlist in case of cancellations.
