Chase Shelton, a member of the Edwards County FFA Chapter has been named the District FFA Proficiency Winner in Forage Production. The Illinois FFA recognizes students across forty-eight different areas based on their work-based learning experiences, known as Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAE). These programs enable students to learn by doing—whether it’s running their own agricultural business, working or interning at an ag-based company, or conducting scientific experiments and reporting their findings.
Shelton’s distinction comes as a result of his exceptional agricultural skills, demonstrated through thorough record keeping, leadership, and academic achievement. He was selected as the District 5 Winner by a panel of agriculture industry representatives and teachers with expertise in his field.
By earning this honor, Shelton is now eligible to compete in the State FFA Awards Selection process, which will take place in Mt. Zion, Illinois, on Saturday, March 21st. Before reaching the district level, Chase was also recognized as the Chapter and Section awardee in Forage Production.
Also representing Edwards County FFA at the District level was Hayley Perry, who competed in the area of Ag Processing. While she did not advance to the state competition, Hayley was selected as the Section 23 Winner for her achievements.
Both Shelton and Perry will be honored with plaques commemorating their accomplishments. These awards are made possible through generous donations from individuals, businesses, corporations, and organizations committed to supporting the next generation of agricultural leaders.
