Former White County Correctional Officer Darren Hays has been arrested for allegedly having unlawful sexual conduct with first-degree murder suspect Megan Valentine of Albion. Hays, 57 of Carmi was taken into custody Wednesday.
Special Prosecutor and Gallatin County State’s Attorney, Doug Dyhrkopp, confirmed Hays has been charged with seven counts. They include six counts of custodial criminal sexual misconduct with penetration and one count of official misconduct by a person of authority. All seven charges are Class-3 felonies punishable by a maximum sentence of five years each. The charges were filed by criminal information.
