Voters across the region will head to the polls tomorrow (Tuesday) for the primary election, with several important local and statewide races on the ballot.
Locally, Shari Winter, Ryan Best, and Tom Windland are vying for the position of Wayne County Coroner. Meanwhile, voters will choose between Billie Jo Townsend and Janet Billington for Wayne County Clerk.
On the Republican side, ballots will offer six choices for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Dick Durbin, as well as four candidates for governor, including Clay County farmer Darren Bailey. Also, challenger, Angela Evans from the Sesser area will try and unseat incumbent, Dave Severin from Benton in the race for State Representative in the 116th District.
Democratic ballots will feature a crowded field as well, with 10 candidates seeking the nomination for Dick Durbin’s Senate seat and four options for Comptroller.
Several competitive races in both parties will determine who advances to the November General Election, while some contests may effectively decide the next officeholder, as no opponent is running in the fall.
Polls will open at 6am, closing at 7:00pm on Tuesday. Voters are encouraged to make their voices heard and participate in this important election.
