FSIS ISSUES PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT FOR MISBRANDED FROZEN TURKEY STUFFED PASTRIES

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for certain frozen, ready-to-eat turkey stuffed pastry products due to misbranding concerns. Some packages labeled as turkey, pesto, and Swiss cheese stuffed pastries actually contain ham and cheese instead. A recall was not initiated, as the product is no longer available for purchase.

The affected products were packaged on February 18th and may contain ham and cheese stuffed pastries in place of the labeled turkey, pesto, and cheese variety. The following product is subject to the public health alert:

25.4-oz. boxes containing eight pieces of “LA BOULANGERIE TURKEY PESTO & SWISS CHEESE POCKETS” with lot code 04926 and a “best by” date of 02/18/27 printed on the packaging.

These products bear establishment number “P-51243A” inside the USDA mark of inspection and were distributed to Costco locations throughout the Midwest.

The issue was discovered after the establishment alerted FSIS to two consumer complaints about turkey and cheese stuffed pastry boxes containing ham and cheese instead.

No adverse reactions related to the consumption of these mislabeled products have been reported. Anyone who is concerned about a potential reaction should contact their healthcare provider.

FSIS is urging consumers to check their freezers for the affected products. The product can be returned to the place of purchase if found.
