The new Interstate-64 bridge over the Wabash River near Grayville is steadily taking shape, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. Officials report that half of the support piers are now complete, and crews have begun building the bridge superstructure.

Currently, the entire westbound bridge has been demolished, with all traffic temporarily sharing the existing eastbound lanes. The bridge replacement is a massive undertaking, with a total project cost of $136 million and construction scheduled to span six construction seasons.

The new bridge is not expected to be complete until 2029, promising improved safety and reliability for motorists once finished.
