2026 ILLINOIS FISHING LICENSES NOW ON SALE AS 2025 LICENSES SET TO EXPIRE

By Mark Wells Mar 20, 2026 | 5:50 AM

Illinois anglers are reminded that all 2025 fishing licenses will expire on March 31st. New licenses for the 2026 fishing season are now available for purchase, granting access to the state’s abundant lakes and rivers and supporting vital conservation and outdoor education efforts.

A standard, non-discounted resident fishing license is priced at just $15. Licenses and required stamps can be purchased online or at local vendors authorized by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR).

All individuals aged 16 and older are required by law to possess a valid Illinois fishing license, with exemptions available for active-duty military personnel and individuals with qualifying disabilities.

Funds generated from license and stamp sales help support the IDNR’s Division of Fisheries, including research, hatchery operations, and invasive species prevention programs.
