By Mark Wells Mar 23, 2026 | 5:59 AM

Will Lewis, a member of the Fairfield FFA Chapter, has been named the State FFA Proficiency Winner in Environmental Systems by the Illinois Association FFA. The prestigious recognition honors students who excel in one of forty-eight areas based on their work-based learning, known as Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAE).

FFA members considered for this award must demonstrate outstanding agricultural skills and competencies, including record keeping, leadership, and scholastic achievement. Through their SAEs, students gain hands-on experience by running an agricultural business, working or interning in agriculture-related businesses, or conducting scientific research in the field. Fairfield FFA Chapter Advisor, Curt Robbins says Lewis is the 10th winner in Fairfield FFA history.

Lewis was selected as the state winner by a committee of agriculture industry representatives and teachers with expertise in environmental systems. He is the son of Billy and Jamie Lewis of Burnt Prairie.

Will Lewis will be honored with plaques for his accomplishment and recognized at the 98th Illinois FFA State Convention, taking place June 9th through the 11th.
