The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Freeze Warning for portions of southern Illinois, in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday. Forecasters warn that sub-freezing temperatures as low as 29 degrees are expected during this period.
According to meteorologists, a significant temperature drop will begin Friday, with afternoon highs only reaching the 50s—roughly 30 to 35 degrees cooler than recent days. The coldest conditions are forecast for early Saturday morning, especially in northern parts of the area, where temperatures could dip to around freezing.
Frost and freeze conditions could pose a serious threat to crops, sensitive vegetation, and unprotected outdoor plumbing. The National Weather Service urges residents to take precautions to protect plants and outdoor pipes from potential damage.
This cool spell is expected to be brief. After Saturday, temperatures will rebound rapidly, climbing back into the 70s by Sunday and reaching the 80s early next week. Rain chances are forecast to increase again from the middle to the end of next week.
