Gloria Garner, age 83, of Wayne City

Gloria Garner, age 83, of Wayne City, IL, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026 at

her home surrounded by her family. She was born on January 22, 1943 in Laredo, TX to

Frank Lopez and Belia Medina. Gloria was married to Robert “Bob” Garner on March

22, 1963. They were married for 61 years before he preceded her in death on May 18,

2024.

Gloria was always known for having a houseful of family and her exquisite cooking

skills. She loved to cook for everyone that knew her, but strangers wouldn’t go hungry

either. She was always a listening ear and made everyone feel like a someone. Gloria

loved traveling with Bob to wherever he was working at the time, and spending hours

gambling and fishing together.

Gloria (Maw Maw) is survived by her three children; Tony Garner of Mt. Vernon, Kerry

(Susan) Garner of Edwardsville, IL, and Carla (Clayton) Withrow of Wayne City, IL;

Bonus daughter Robin (Gary) Nichols of Carmi, IL; seven grandchildren: Sawyer

(Amber) Nichols, Casey Withrow, Haley (Brent) Edwards, Ethan (Anahita) Garner,

Connor (Rachel) Withrow, Mason (Erica) Garner, and Malorie (Nick) Hendrix; great

grandchildren: Paityn Rightnowar, Kameron Sneed, Charlotte Kirkpatrick, Truett,

Barrett, and Beckett Edwards, Walker and Brewer Hendrix, Cade and Carsyn Withrow,

and Tucker Garner; sister-in-law: Joyce Garner, brother-in-law: Randy Ile, along with

several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, and sister

Rosemary (Rosie) Tackett; sisters-in-law: Carlene Brown, Jeanine Jordan, and Sybbie

Ile; brothers-in-law: Cecil and Benny Garner; along with nephews Billy Ray Garner,

Tony Johnston, and Tim Garner.

Funeral Services for Gloria Garner will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL with Bro. Rob Greenwalt officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Young Funeral Home.  Interment will follow the funeral service at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to “SSM Health at Home

Foundation” and note “Hospice Program” on the memo line, and will be accepted

at Young Funeral Home.
