Arguments were heard Thursday in White County Circuit Court regarding a motion for relief and pretrial release for former White County jailer Darren Hays. The motion, which was originally presented before Cumberland County Judge Jonathan Braden last Tuesday, was ultimately denied.

Following the judge’s decision, Hays waived his right to a preliminary hearing. A pre-trial date has been set for May 14th. Hays is represented by attorney Troy Parrish, while special prosecutor Doug Dyhrkopp of Gallatin County is overseeing the case for the state.

Hays will remain in the Saline County Jail in Harrisburg until his trial. He faces six counts of custodial criminal sexual misconduct and one count of official misconduct by a person of authority. The charges stem from allegations involving unlawful sexual contact with first-degree murder suspect Megan Valentine while she was in custody.

The case remains ongoing as it moves toward pre-trial proceedings.
