WIND ADVISORY ISSUED FOR REGION AS SEVERE WEATHER APPROACHES

By Mark Wells Apr 2, 2026 | 6:00 AM

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Wind Advisory in effect from 10 a.m. this morning until 7 p.m. this evening for portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

Forecasters are warning of sustained south winds between 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching 40 to 45 mph throughout the day. These gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects, bring down tree limbs, and could result in a few power outages across the region. Motorists, especially those driving high-profile vehicles, are urged to use extra caution as winds this strong can make driving conditions hazardous.

A significant shift in the weather pattern is expected later this (Thursday) afternoon and evening, as showers and thunderstorms become likely. Some of these storms could turn severe, producing damaging winds, large hail, and even an isolated tornado, particularly in southern Illinois. Powerful winds are also anticipated outside of thunderstorms, likely meeting Wind Advisory criteria regionwide. The unsettled weather will continue with daily chances for showers and storms through Saturday. A more impactful cold front is forecast to bring widespread rain Saturday morning and afternoon, with rainfall totals ranging from 1 to 2 inches by week’s end.

After the system passes, cooler temperatures are expected to settle in by Saturday. Early next week will see a return to more seasonable conditions, but Monday morning could bring a chill with lows dipping into the low 30s and the possibility of patchy frost. We will continue to monitor the severe weather potential and gusty wind conditions.
