The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has announced a full overnight closure of Interstate 57 in both directions as part of an ongoing bridge improvement project.

Beginning at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 13th, weather permitting, I-57 will be closed between exit 65 (West Frankfort) and exit 59 (Johnston City). The closure is necessary for the safe installation of structural beams on the Stiritz Road bridge, which spans I-57 just north of Johnston City.

A marked detour will be in place, directing both northbound and southbound traffic to Illinois 37 between exit 59 and exit 65. Flaggers, message boards, and other traffic control devices will be used to guide motorists safely through the detour route.

All lanes are expected to reopen by 7 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14th. Motorists should anticipate delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during the overnight closure. Drivers are reminded to reduce speed, remain alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signs, and avoid using mobile devices while traveling through the work zone.
