Monday night at approximately 9:17 p.m., Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a rural Wayne City residence for a welfare check on two juvenile children. The response was prompted by a call reporting that one of the juveniles stated over the phone, “why are you hitting me.”

Deputies initiated a search for the children and their mother, Cynthia Solomon, 37, of Wayne City. When contacted by phone, Solomon provided false information about her whereabouts. After a lengthy search, deputies located one juvenile walking along Route 242 south of Wayne City. The child reported that Solomon had become angry, physically battered them, and threw items, including a laptop, at them. The juvenile further alleged Solomon forced them into a vehicle, telling them, “they were going to die tonight.” During the drive, Solomon reportedly kicked the juvenile out of the car, leaving them in the roadway, and continued driving with the second child.

Deputies later found Solomon and the second juvenile, taking Solomon into custody. She was transported to the Wayne County Jail as the investigation continues in cooperation with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

Solomon faces charges of domestic battery, endangering the life and health of a child, and obstructing justice.
