The Wayne County Historical Society’s Hanna House Museum is now open for the 2026 season. Visitors can explore the museum every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through October, or by appointment. This year, guests can enjoy new and revamped exhibits on Wayne County history, as well as a special display honoring the 100th anniversary of the Fairfield Community High School building. To schedule a tour, field trip, or presentation by a historical society member, call 618-842-3544.

In addition, the Historical Society will host an author presentation by M.E. Maury Daubs, son of longtime Jasper principal Mr. Daubs. Maury Daubs will share insights from his new Civil War book, “Following The Footsteps of the 87th,” on Thursday, April 16 at 6:00 p.m. at the Fairfield Public Library. The event is free and open to the public.

Daubs’ book follows the journey of three Southern Illinois brothers who served as Union soldiers during the Civil War, brought to life through personal letters and a diary carried for over 18 months. The story highlights themes of courage, sacrifice, and freedom, connecting local history to the broader American experience.
