Village of Mill Shoals Board Discusses School Property Sale, Community Cleanup and Other Issues at April Meeting

The Village of Mill Shoals met recently for its April meeting with several major topics on the agenca. including the future of the former grade school property, community-wide trash cleanup efforts, and updates on municipal services.

Attorney Turpin was present at the meeting to address questions and provide legal guidance regarding the possible sale of the old grade school property, which includes the historic schoolhouse, gymnasium, and surrounding land. The Village of Mill Shoals board met recently for its April meeting with several major topics on the agenda, including the future of the former grade school property, community-wide trased board members that grant funding had been received eight years and seven months ago to repair the roof of the building. Based on his advice, the board agreed to reach out to USDA Rural Development, the agency that provided the grant, to determine the best course of action moving forward.

The board also directed Attorney Turpin to draft a collection letter to a Village resident who owes restitution for running over a fire hydrant. Additionally, board members sought his opinion on how to address properties within the Village that are accumulating trash and debris. Turpin explained that the board should gather comprehensive information on the properties in question to present to a judge if the homeowners are found to be in violation of Village ordinances.

In other business, the board announced a town-wide trash pickup event, with a dumpster to be placed at Village Hall from June 5 to June 10. Residents are encouraged to bring their items for disposal, though they are reminded not to dump illegal items such as electronics, tires, paint, or appliances. To ensure compliance, cameras will be installed at the dumpster site.

The City of Fairfield has offered to provide mosquito spraying services for Mill Shoals, with the board approving the arrangement. The Village will be billed monthly for the service.

The board also approved the employment of Logan Staton through the WADI Workforce Initiative and Opportunity Act Summer Program.

Finally, Board President Isaacs stated he would contact Wayne White to inquire about water billing charges, while Clerk Tullis noted that the Village of Enfield could provide information about offering online payment options for residents.
