A wet overnight has led to several commute issues heading north into Clay County from Wayne County.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning around 1:15 this morning was issued for Wayne County for winds in excess of 70 miles per hour. During the storm that moved throughout the area, 4 to 8 inches of rainfall had fallen in the northen portion of Wayne County.
Just after 4 AM, National Weather Service Officials in Paducah issued a Flash Flood Warning for Wayne County and officials in Lincoln issued a Flash Flood Warning for Clay County, both going until 7 AM. 4 to 8 inches of rainfall had fallen through the area with more rain expected overnight.
Calls from our newsroom to Central Dispatch Offices in Wayne and Clay Counties led to reports from Wayne County of US 45 North of Cisne closed due to flooding as well as Flash Flooding inpacting County Highway 1 near the Clay/Wayne County Line. CH 1 is the road that leads from Fairfield to Clay City. In Clay County, they reported patches of flash flooding with the worst flooding on US 45 near Clover lane just north of the Clay/Wayne County Line. They also say portions of Xenia near US 50 were dealing with Flash Flooding.
We had a call into our newsroom around 5:15 of Flash Flooding and water across the roadway in the Rinard area.
Around 5:30 this morning, Sheriff Chris Otey in Wayne County reported there was a broken-down semi on US 45 Closing the roadway near Geff. It’s unclear if that had to deal with flash flooding or if there was another issue.
A Flood watch continues through the area until this afternoon.
