In response to a growing demand for CDL truck drivers in the Illinois Basin oil production industry, the Illinois Petroleum Resource Board (IPRB) has announced a new cost reimbursement program for CDL training and certification. The initiative aims to support oil production companies that contribute to the IPRB assessment by easing the financial burden of training new drivers.
Under the new program, qualifying companies can receive reimbursement of up to $2,500 per employee pursuing a CDL license. Eligible expenses include training or schooling fees, mandatory medical exams, DMV testing fees, and truck rental or access fees. To qualify for reimbursement, companies must provide proof that the employee has obtained their CDL license, is currently employed at the company, and submit receipts for all eligible expenses.
IPRB executive director Seth Whitehead encourages interested, qualifying companies to reach out directly for more information. Companies can text or call Whitehead at 618-367-4751 to learn how to participate in the program and help address the ongoing driver shortage in the Illinois Basin oil sector.
