NOAH MCELRAVY NAMED NEW HEAD BOYS BASKETBALL COACH AT MARTINSVILLE JR./SR. HIGH SCHOOL

Southern Illinois basketball fans will be seeing another Coach McElravy along the sidelines next basketball season.
Martinsville Jr./Sr. High School is excited to announce that Noah McElravy has been hired as their new Head Boys Basketball Coach.
Coach McElravy is a Fairfield High School graduate and the son of Fairfield Hall of Fame Coach Scott McElravy, bringing with him a strong basketball background and a deep understanding of the game. He most recently served as the Martinsville Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Coach during the 2025–2026 season, where his young team—made up largely of players who also competed at the varsity level—finished the season with a respectable 6–6 record.
Before graduating from the University of Illinois, Coach McElravy served as a manager for the University of Illinois Men’s Basketball program, assisting with daily practices, individual workouts, game-day responsibilities, and team operations. He has also contributed to youth basketball development through his after-school program work in Mahomet.
Coach McElravy brings a leadership style centered on communication, teamwork, discipline, and player development, and he will make a positive impact both in the classroom and within the basketball program at Martinsville.
EDWARDS COUNTY SENIOR LOLA NUSSMEYER SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT

Lola Nussmeyer, Senior at Edwards County High School has signed a letter of intent to play college basketball at University of Illinois at Springfield. Nussmeyer was recently named to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-State 1st team, All- State AP Honorable Mention, Black Diamond All- Conference Team and All South Team. Nussmeyer finished her career at Edwards County with 1, 581 points.

Starting pitcher Noah Schultz earned his first career win after tossing five innings of one-run ball. Seranthony Dominguez recorded his fourth save as the White Sox improved to 8-and-14. (Champaign, IL) — The Illinois Fighting Illini are getting one of their best players back for the 2026-27 season. Forward Andrej Stojakovic announced over the weekend that he is returning to the basketball program. Stojakovic helped Illinois get to the Final Four this past season. He averaged 13-and-a-half points and four-and-a-half rebounds per game in 34 appearances last season.

(Washington, DC) — The St. Louis Battlehawks dropped back to .500 with a 28-22 loss to the DC Defenders at Audi Field on Saturday. Hakeem Butler caught two passes for 109 yards and one touchdown, while Harrison Frost passed for 144 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The 2-and-2 Battlehawks visit Orlando this Saturday.

(Cincinnati, OH) — The Bengals are taking advantage of a premier player’s wish to change teams. Cincy acquired Dexter Lawrence from the Giants on Saturday in exchange for the 10th-overall pick in Thursday’s draft. The defensive tackle was given a one-year, 28-million-dollar extension following the deal and is now under contract for the next three seasons. New York moved on from Lawrence after the sides reached an impasse in negotiations last week.

(Athens, GA) — A hopeful prospect is landing in hot water ahead of Thursday’s NFL draft. Georgia authorities say Zachariah Branch was arrested early Sunday morning on two misdemeanor charges, including obstruction of a law enforcement officer. Athens police say the former Georgia wide receiver blocked a public sidewalk which led to the incident. Branch is expected to go as early as round two in the upcoming draft.

(Undated) — The NBA playoffs continued Sunday with a quartet of Game One matchups. Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics cruised to a dominant 123-91 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers at TD Garden. That game was followed by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder knocking off the Phoenix Suns 119-84 in a Western Conference battle. The Orlando Magic then pulled off a 112-101 upset of the East’s top-seeded Detroit Pistons in the Motor City. The day was capped off by Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs beating the Portland Trail Blazers 111-98 in the Lone Star state. The action continues Monday with three Game Two contests. The Cleveland Cavaliers will host the Toronto Raptors, the New York Knicks play host to the Atlanta Hawks and the Minnesota Timberwolves visit the Denver Nuggets.

(Undated) — The Stanley Cup Playoffs continued with four dramatic game ones on Sunday. The Colorado Avalanche held on to beat the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 to begin their series. Juraj Slafkovsky completed a hat trick in overtime to give the Montreal Canadiens a 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Buffalo Sabres scored four goals in the final eight minutes to beat the Boston Bruins 4-3 in their first postseason game since 2011. The Vegas Golden Knights scored three times in the third period to beat the Utah Mammoth 4-2 in Sin City. The action continues today with four more games. The Pittsburgh Penguins will host the Philadelphia Flyers, the Carolina Hurricanes and Ottawa Senators will match up in Raleigh and the Dallas Stars will host the Minnesota Wild in game two of their respective series before the Edmonton Oilers host the Anaheim Ducks to kick off their series.

(Philadelphia, PA) — The Phillies won’t have their closer for a couple of weeks. Manager Rob Thomson told the media on Saturday that Jhoan Duran is dealing with a strained oblique. He was put on the 15-day injured list as a result. The 28-year-old got hurt about a week ago and hasn’t pitched since. Duran has five saves and a 1.35 ERA this season, and Brad Keller will take over closing duties in his absence.

(Indianapolis, IN) — Caitlin Clark is back to 100 percent. The Fever superstar returned to the court for the start of Indiana’s training camp on Sunday. Clark has no restrictions after being limited to just 13 games last season due to quad, groin and ankle injuries. Head coach Stephanie White said they will continue to monitor the wear and tear Clark is subjected to, but hope that a tweak to offseason training, rehab and recovery will minimize injury risk as much as possible. Indiana opens the preseason on Saturday when it visits the New York Liberty.

(Hilton Head Island, SC) — Matt Fitzpatrick is celebrating a victory after taking home the title at the RBC Heritage from Harbour Town. Fitzpatrick topped Scottie Scheffler in a one-hole playoff after both players finished atop the leaderboard at 18 under par. This marks Fitzpatrick’s second title after also winning the tournament in 2023. Si Woo Kim finished third at 16 under. Collin Morikawa, Harris English and Ludvig Aberg finished in a three-way tie for fourth at 13 under par.

(Kansas City, KS) — Tyler Reddick is still dominating the NASCAR Cup Series field after earning an Advent Health 400 victory at Kansas Speedway. The driver of the Number-45 car held off Kyle Larson to earn his fifth victory of the season. Chase Briscoe, Denny Hamlin and Bubba Wallace rounded out the top-five finishers. The racers will gear up for the Jack Link’s 500 at classic Talladega next Sunday.
