The FCHS Mules Boys Track team finished in 1st Place Monday at the Foxes Invitational at McLeansboro. Notable performances for the boys were: Justin Johnson-1st in 100m, 1st in 200m, and 2nd 200m; Skylar Bladel-1st in 800m; Kanyen Lingafelter-2nd in 800m; Ashton King-2nd in 3200m; Cayson Webb-Tied for 1st in High Jump; and the 4x400m and 4x800m Relay teams both finished 1st.

The Lady Mules Track team took 4th place Monday at the Don Webb Invitational at Benton. Notable performances for the girls were: Emeri Sager-1st in 800m and 3rd in 1600m; Jaycie Couch 3rd in 3200m; Emily Vaughan-1st in 300m Hurdles, 2nd in 110m Hurdles and 3rd in Long Jump; Remi Taylor-3rd in Pole Vault; and the 4x100m Thrower Relay team finished 1st.

WEAA CONFERENCE MEET AT THE FCHS TRAIN YARD TRACK:
On Monday, the WEAA Conference Meet was held at FCHS with athletes from Jasper, New Hope, Geff, and Cisne participating. On the Boys side, St. Joe took 1st, followed by Jasper 2nd, and Cisne 3rd. For the Girls, St. Joe took 1st, followed by Jasper 2nd, and New Hope 3rd.
1st Place Varsity finishers for the boys were: 400m-Kallen King-Jasper, 800m-Keaton Diesel-Jasper, 1600m-Kendall Diesel-Jasper, 100m Hurdles-Kallen King-Jasper, Shot Put-Eric Soriano-Jasper, and Long Jump-Kendall Diesel-Jasper.
For the girls: 400m-Bristol Weber-New Hope, 800m-Bristol Weber-New Hope.

The St. Louis Cardinals opened up their series against the Miami Marlins with a 5-3 loss from LoanDepot Park. Miami’s Otto Lopez hit a go-ahead double in the bottom of the sixth to give the Marlins the lead for good. Michael McGreevy was charged with his second loss after allowing four runs on five hits in five-and-two-thirds innings. St. Louis had its five-game winning streak snapped with the loss. (Lake Forest, IL) — Darnell Wright will spend at least two more seasons with the Chicago Bears. The team picked up Wright’s fifth-year option for the 2027 season yesterday. The offensive tackle will make over 19-million dollars for 2027. Wright was Chicago’s tenth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He’s missed just two starts during the first three seasons of his career.

San Francisco linebacker Fred Warner is back at full strength after recovering from a season-ending right ankle injury that required surgery. The Niners opened their offseason training program Monday and Warner was in attendance with no limitations on his participation. The 29-year-old missed the final 12 games of the 2025 regular season and both of the team’s playoff matchups. He finished with 51 tackles, two forced fumbles and a recovery in six games played.

(Frisco, TX) — The Cowboys are making Brandon Aubrey the highest-paid kicker in NFL history. Dallas is signing Aubrey to a four-year contract extension that makes him the first kicker to earn seven-million-dollars per year. The deal also includes 20-million-dollars guaranteed and a reported 8.25-million-dollar signing bonus. Aubrey has been named to the Pro Bowl in all three seasons of his career and has made the most field goals from 60 yards or more in league history with six. The 31-year-old has made 88.2 percent of his career field goal attempts and has missed just four extra point kicks.

General manager Chris Ballard said Monday that wideout Alec Pierce recently underwent surgery and will miss offseason workouts. The team estimates the recovery time to take three months.

Out West, the Timberwolves knotted up their series with the Nuggets after securing a 119-114 victory from Denver. Three more Game Two’s are on the slate for Tuesday.

(Undated) — San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama was named the first ever unanimous winner of the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year Award, the league announced Monday. The third-year pro is the youngest player to win the award and the first Spur to do so since Kawhi Leonard took it home back-to-back years following the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Wembanyama led the league with three-point-one blocks per game, over one more than Thunder center Chet Holmgren, who was second. Holmgren came in second in the voting and Pistons guard Ausar Thompson was voted third.

(Undated) — The Nets are committed to their current head coach. Jordi Fernandez and his entire coaching staff were signed to multiyear contract extensions. General manager Sean Marks said in a statement that “Jordi is a tremendous leader” that has put his stamp on the organization. Fernandez has been the head coach of the Nets for two seasons, and has led Brooklyn to a 46-and-118 record over that time.

The Hurricanes are also leading their best of seven first round series by two games after topping the Senators 3-2 in double overtime. The Stars managed to even their series at a game apiece after taking down the Wild 4-2. The Oilers are leading their series against the Ducks after coming away with a 4-3 victory in Game One. The first round continues on Tuesday with the Canadiens visiting the Lightning, the Sabres hosting the Bruins, the Golden Knights host the Mammoth, and the Avalanche hosting the Kings all up 1-0.

(Undated) — The Dodgers will be without their closer for an extended period this summer. Los Angeles closer Edwin Diaz is scheduled to undergo surgery this week to remove loose bodies in his right elbow. ESPN is reporting that Diaz is could sit out around three months. The team placed the 32-year-old on the 15-day injured list on Monday and said that he will be back during the second half of the season. Diaz is 1-and-0 with four saves and a 10.50 ERA through seven appearances this season. The Dodgers recalled left-hander Jake Eder from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move.
