The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Orchardville Fire Department, Wayne City Ambulance personnel, and Air Evac of Mt. Vernon responded to a two-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon just after 3 o’clock at the intersection of County Highway 13 and County Highway 16 near Johnsonville.
According to deputies, a John Deere tractor driven by 20-year-old Lynford New Swanger of Johnsonville was traveling westbound on County Highway 16 when he attempted to turn southbound onto County Highway 13 and drove into the path of a 2010 Ford Escape. The Ford Escape was driven by 74-year-old Terrence Major of Flora, who was traveling eastbound. The collision resulted in injuries to both Major and his 60-year-old female passenger, also from Flora.
Both victims were transported from the scene. One was airlifted to a hospital in Evansville, while the other was taken by Wayne City Ambulance to a hospital in Mt. Vernon for treatment of their injuries.
Lynford New Swanger, the driver of the tractor, was cited by Wayne County Deputies for Improper Turn.
