A planned HBO special focusing on the murder of Fairfield teenager Megan Nichols has been canceled.
Filming had been scheduled to begin later this week in Fairfield, but producers informed individuals who were set to be interviewed that production had been shut down.
Some of those expected to participate became hesitant about being involved in the project. As participation declined, the decision was made to halt production
.
The special was slated to be part of the HBO Max true crime series A Killer Among Friends.
The program was expected to examine the July 2014 murder of Nichols, along with the investigation and eventual arrest, trial, and conviction of her killer, Brodey I. Murbarger.
A Wayne County jury found Murbarger guilty in the case. He is currently serving a 50-year sentence at Menard Correctional Center.
