Robert Allen Caudle, 74, of Wayne City, IL passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, IN. Robert was born on February 24, 1952 in Fairfield, IL to Joe & Doris (Fenton) Caudle. On November 25, 1971 he married Betty (Talbert) Caudle, who survives.
Robert worked for Morton Buildings for several years; he was a school bus driver for the Wayne City Unit School District #100; he was a retired firefighter with the Wayne City Fire Protection District #1; and he was an E.M.T. with the Wayne City Volunteer Ambulance Service. He was also a member of the Wayne City First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed camping, woodworking, spending time with his family, and he especially enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren.
Robert is survived by his wife Betty Caudle of Wayne City, his daughter Jamie Wheat & husband Nathan, his grandchildren: Jordan Wheat & fiancé Jacob Butts of Carlyle, IL and Josilyn Wheat & significant other Cervion Davis of Mt. Vernon, IL; his great-grandson Beau Butts of Carlyle, IL; 5 siblings: Mary Lousig-Nont of Fairfield, IL; Stephen Caudle & significant other Mary Irwin of Wayne City, Barbara Feather & husband Nick of Wayne City, Byron Caudle of Wayne City, and Myron Caudle & wife Dena of Wayne City, his brother-in-law Bill Talbert & wife Kathy of Statham, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joe & Doris Caudle, his brother Larry Caudle, his son James Caudle, his father-in-law & mother-in-law Ted & Erma Talbert, and his brother-in-law Larry Lousig-Nont.
A memorial service for Robert Allen Caudle will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at the Archie Sanders Memorial Chapel in Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City with Rev. Bud Storey and Rev. Wade Stewart officiating. Interment will follow the memorial service in Thomason Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Robert’s memory may be made to the Wayne City First United Methodist Church and will be accepted at the service or at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City.
