A fatal two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon south of Effingham claimed one life and left two others injured.
The collision happened around 12:45 p.m. on U.S. Route 45, just south of Heartville. According to preliminary reports, 61-year-old Daniel Bushur of rural Dieterich was traveling north when his vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a southbound vehicle driven by 45-year-old Miguel Garcia-Gregorio of Flora.
Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes said Bushur was pronounced dead at 2:36 p.m. at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital.
Garcia-Gregorio was initially taken to St. Anthony’s before being transferred to a regional trauma center for further treatment. A passenger in his vehicle was treated at the hospital and later released.
Authorities noted that strong winds and heavy rainfall at the time of the crash created poor visibility in the area.
The Illinois State Police, along with the Effingham County Coroner’s Office, continues to investigate the crash.
