The superintendent and principal of Pinckneyville Community Consolidated School District #204, Jerry Travelstead, has been placed on administrative leave while school officials investigate allegations currently circulating in the community.

The decision, communicated to Travelstead by Board President Brand in a letter on Tuesday morning, comes amid what the district described as “allegations and rumors prevalent in the community.” District leaders stressed that Travelstead is presumed innocent unless proven otherwise.

In the interim, Regional Office of Education Superintendent Matt Hickam will act as superintendent, as the school board continues its investigation and considers future leadership options.

News of the investigation has raised concerns among parents, with calls for increased transparency and clear communication from district officials. In response, a parent-organized meeting is scheduled for tonight (Wednesday) at 7 p.m. at the Pinckneyville Community Center. Organizers say the meeting is an opportunity for parents and guardians to voice their questions and concerns, and have noted that no school administrators are expected to attend.

The district has not provided any further information about the nature of the allegations or the expected duration of the investigation.
