Olney Central College is underway with an extensive $2 million project to renovate four science labs in Dr. Kent L. Wattleworth Hall, where few upgrades have been made since the facility opened in the early 1970s.

The project focuses on transforming third-floor physics, chemistry and two biology labs into modern, high-tech learning spaces. Work began this past Monday and is expected to continue through the summer. Improvements will include new cabinetry, flooring, furniture, upgraded tools and updated laboratory equipment. Completion is anticipated prior to the start of fall semester classes later this year.

Planning for the renovation included visits by college administration and faculty to other institutions in fall 2024. Those visits included Parkland College, Kaskaskia College, Southwestern Illinois College and Richland Community College to review updated lab layouts and designs.

A significant portion of the funding for the project is being provided by the Olney Central College Foundation as part of its 2026 Campaign for Excellence, aimed at enhancing facilities and supporting the future of the college.
