Veteran Fairfield Fire Department Captain Darren Hopper has retired after more than three decades of service.
Hopper stepped down from his duties Wednesday, marking the end of a 32-year career with the department. While he has concluded his active role, his official retirement date is set for September.
Officials say Hopper is utilizing accrued time off to begin his retirement early.
A reception honoring his years of service is expected to be held closer to his official retirement date in Fairfield.
