Dorothy Marie (Hammond) Johnson
On May 5, 2026 at 7:30 p.m. Dorothy gained her wings, she was pronounced at 9:12 p.m., surrounded by her loving family.
Born July 26, 1945 to Earl and Ester (McClain) Hammond in Rochelle, Illinois.
She married Lavern Fay Johnson Sr. on May 26, 1962 in Keenes, Illinois.
They would have been married 64 years this month.
They met on one rainy day, and she went to heaven on a rainy day.
Her hobbies were watching John Wayne movies and any western movies. She loved to listen to Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn music. She was a member of the Ten Post Oak Baptist Church in Keenes.
Most of all she loved spending time with her family, always getting her hugs and kisses in. She never met a stranger, and she was always known as momma or grandma by everyone.
She was full of sass, and she always had a quick comeback that always made everyone around laugh. She loved to laugh and it was one of her best qualities.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of almost 64 years Lavern Fay Johnson, Sr.; Sons: Joe (Lisel) Johnson, of Mt Carmel, IL; Wayne (Tina) Johnson of Fairfield, IL; Wes (Robin) Johnson of Fairfield, IL; Tom (Tammy) Johnson of Potoka, IN; Daughters: Katie (Raymond) Castleberry of Flora, IL and Bell (Dale) Klanke of Xenia, IL; Brother Bill Hammond of Pocahontas, Arkansas; and a sister Beulah (Rick) Skelt of Rochelle, IL; 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, and a lot of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Lavern Fay Johnson, Jr.; 10 siblings; 2 grandsons: Gabriel Horn and Daniel Horn, and her great-granddaughter Wrigleigh Johnson.
Funeral services for Dorothy Marie (Hammond) Johnson will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2026 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL with Pastor Gary Cline officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home. Interment will follow the funeral service at Ten Post Oak Cemetery in Keenes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the Ten Post Oak Cemetery Fund and will be accepted at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City.
