Campgrounds registered with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources are now open for reservations as part of the spring-summer camping season, which began Friday, May 1, and runs through the end of September.
The fall-winter camping season is scheduled from October 1 through April 30.
Camping and shelter reservations can be made online through ExploreMoreIL, with reservations now available up to one year in advance. A $5 nonrefundable reservation fee is required.
IDNR campgrounds are divided into classes based on available amenities, including electricity, water, and sewer hookups. Primitive campsites also remain available for visitors seeking a more rugged outdoor experience, with some sites requiring hiking or backpacking access and prohibiting vehicles.
The maximum campsite fee for full amenities is $25 per night, with an additional $10 charge for holidays and holiday weekends. Cabin rentals are also available for visitors preferring alternatives to tent camping.
Officials say tents can be rented for $8, plus camping fees, offering an affordable option for occasional campers.
Group camping rates are also available, with youth groups charged $20 or $2 per person, whichever amount is greater. Adult groups are charged double the youth group rate.
