Officials in Mt. Vernon, IL have announced that nearly a million dollars in upgrades to Mt. Vernon Outland Airport have been completed, with a ribbon cutting ceremony held earlier this week to mark the completion of the parking lot and entry road rehabilitation project.
Reports say the project was $977,000 and included repairs to the airport’s main terminal parking lot, aircraft feeder roads and Firebaugh Drive. Concrete curbing dating back to the mid 1970s was replaced, and added protective bollards around parking light poles was completed.
The project was administered by the Illinois Department of Transporation, which covered most of the funding costs, with a local share for the Airport Authority.
