The National Weather Service says a weak cold front will move into the region late tonight into early Wednesday morning, bringing a chance of showers and thunderstorms across portions of Southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, and northwest Kentucky.

Forecasters say severe weather is not expected, and rainfall totals should remain light in most locations.

By Wednesday afternoon, drier air and breezy northerly winds are expected to create an elevated fire weather risk across much of the region. Humidity values are forecast to fall between 20 and 25 percent, prompting officials to urge caution with any outdoor burning activities.

A significant warming trend is expected to begin Thursday and continue through the weekend. High temperatures are forecast to rise from the low to mid-70s Thursday into the low to mid-80s Friday.

Temperatures this weekend are expected to climb into the upper 80s, well above average for this time of year. Forecasters say a more humid air mass will settle into the region, bringing daily chances for isolated pop-up showers and thunderstorms, though widespread rainfall is not anticipated.
