The 51st annual Memorial Day Service at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City is scheduled for Monday, May 25th beginning at 2:00 p.m.
The program will include a welcome by Sharon White, prayer by Laythan Musgrave, the Pledge of Allegiance led by the Boy Scouts, and the singing of the “Star-Spangled Banner” by John Blasdel.
Lamar Choate will conduct the reading of veterans buried in Thomason Cemetery during the past year.
The featured Memorial Day speaker will be The Honorable Matt Vaughn.
Closing ceremonies will be conducted by American Legion Post 176 and VFW Post 4535. The ceremony will also include the placing of a memorial wreath at the Veterans Monument by Laura Wood of the National Society Daughters of the Union and Julie Wood Barnes, honorary state president and Kaskaskia Chapter president.
Additional honors will include a Color Guard firing squad and the playing of “Taps” by Kevin Chastain.
