Edwards County School Board to Meet Monday

The Edwards County Community Unit School District No. 1 Board of Education, will meet for the their regular meeting on Monday, May 18th. The meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Jr. High Science Room at West Salem Grade School.

Numerous items are on the agenda including a spotlight on the FFA Report by Mrs. Wiseman and a presentation on the Science of Reading by Mrs. Henson.

The board will consider the second reading and adoption of several district policies, including those covering school board meeting procedures, access to district records, grievance procedures, child sexual abuse prevention, student social and emotional development, support for migrant students, and Title I programs.

Under new business, the board will set fees and rates for the 2026-2027 school year, consider approval of projects exceeding $5,000, review donations—including a contribution from the WSGS PTO—and vote on the purchase of two activity buses. There will also be a first reading of the 2026-2027 Risk Management Plan and updates to policies on leaves of absence, sick days, school wellness, student harassment, admissions, bullying prevention, teen dating violence, student misconduct, and exemptions from physical education.

Administrative reports will be presented by Superintendent David Cowger, as well as principals and directors from ECHS, AGS Elementary, AGS Jr. High, WSGS, and the K-12 Assistant Principal. Topics will include cafeteria operations, sales tax, crisis planning, state surveys, building projects, and upcoming conferences.

A closed session is scheduled to discuss personnel matters, including appointments, resignations, employment, extracurricular assignments, and leave of absence requests. The board will also address student discipline and may take motions following the closed session.

The meeting will also include the setting of administrator salaries for the 2026-2027 school year.
