The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is urging motorists across the state to be alert for maintenance crews as they work to pick up trash and debris along roadways this summer.
IDOT teams are focusing their efforts on ramps, interchanges, and other problem areas known for accumulating litter. With cleanup operations increasing as summer approaches, residents are reminded to do their part by properly disposing of their own trash.
Last year, IDOT spent more than $33 million statewide on litter collection, sweeping shoulders, and removing large debris. The department asks everyone to help keep Illinois roads clean and safe by being mindful of maintenance workers and reducing litter.
