IHSA CLASS 1A SECTIONAL AT FAIRFIELD:
On Wednesday, the FCHS Mules Boys Track team competed at the IHSA Class 1A Sectional Meet at the Train Yard Track and came away with their 3rd straight Sectional Championship. Individual qualifiers for the IHSA State Track Meet at Eastern Illinois University on Thursday, May 28th were: Justin Johnson-200m and 400m; Skylar Bladel-800m; Treyton Lewis-1600m; Ashton King-3200m; Cayson Webb-High Jump; the 4x400m Relay Team of Jarrett Welty, Skylar Bladel, Treyton Lewis, and Kanyen Lingafelter; and the 4x800m Relay Team of Skylar Bladel, Jarret Vaughan, Treyton Lewis, and Kanyen Lingafelter.

The Southsiders remain in second place in the AL Central at 25-and-24. Chicago visits San Francisco tomorrow night.

JJ Wetherholt had two hits in the losing effort, while Michael McGreevy was charged with his third loss after surrendering three runs on ten hits in five innings. The Cardinals have dropped two of their last three games. The Cardinals go for a series win when they host the Pittsburgh Pirates in the rubber match of their three-game series from Busch Stadium today. The Cardinals are in second place in the NL Central with a 28-and-20 record. Dustin May starts for St. Louis this afternoon. First pitch is at 12:15PM.

The Chicago Cubs are on a five-game losing streak following a 5-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field. The Northsiders had just two hits in the losing effort. Edward Cabrera was charged with his second loss after allowing one earned run and three unearned runs on four hits in three innings. The Cubs are in third place in the NL Central at 29-and-21. They host the Astros tomorrow.

(Pittsburgh, PA) — Aaron Rodgers is set to retire after this NFL season. The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback told reporters Wednesday that this year will be his last. Rodgers has flirted with retirement the past few offseasons and his final season will be his second with the Steelers. The longtime QB was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2005 and played there for 18 seasons, winning the Super Bowl in the 2010 season. Rodgers played for the New York Jets for two seasons before heading to Pittsburgh.

(Cleveland, OH) — The Browns are happy with the development of Shedeur Sanders. New head coach Todd Monken says the quarterback has “come a long way” following the team’s second session of Organized Team Activities. Sanders started seven games last season in his rookie year and is currently splitting first-team reps with veteran Deshaun Watson. Dillon Gabriel and Taylen Green are also on the roster.

Ahmed went undrafted in 2020 but spent four seasons with the Miami Dolphins. He hasn’t appeared in a regular season game since 2023. He had 61 rushing yards and two total touchdowns in eight games that season.

(Henderson, NV) — The first overall pick in April’s NFL Draft is already making a strong impression on his new team. Las Vegas Raiders coach Klint Kubiak said that rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza has been “as advertised” through the team’s first couple of organized team activities. Kubiak did not provide a timeline for when he would want to name a starting quarterback, with veterans Kirk Cousins and Aidan O’Connell also on the roster. The Raiders will hold their final OTA session of the week on Thursday before returning for three more practices next week.

Pass rusher Boye Mafe and safety Bryan Cook were added in free agency as Cincy will try to make the playoffs for the first time in three years.

The best-of-seven series shifts to San Antonio for Game Three on Friday. Meanwhile, the Eastern Conference Finals makes a return tonight. The Knicks will try to go up 2-0 against the Cavaliers from Madison Square Garden after the team stunned Cleveland with a more than 20-point comeback win in Game One.

(Undated) — Dallas Mavericks star forward Cooper Flagg headlines this season’s NBA All-Rookie First Team. The Rookie of the Year was joined by Charlotte’s Kon Knueppel and Philadelphia’s VJ Edgecombe as unanimous first-team selections. The First Team also included San Antonio’s Dylan Harper and Memphis’ Cedric Coward. Those five players were also the only ones to receive votes in the Rookie of the Year balloting. The Second Team consisted of New Orleans’ Jeremiah Fears and Derik Queen, Utah’s Ace Bailey, Sacramento’s Maxime Raynaud and Toronto’s Collin Murray-Boyles.

Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs will challenge the Pelicans in both Paris and Manchester, England, on January 14th and 17th next winter. These will be the first overseas regular season games for New Orleans, while the Spurs last traveled abroad to the continent for a pair of games against the Indiana Pacers in 2025.

The Vegas Golden Knights opened up the Western Conference Final with a 4-2 road victory over the Colorado Avalanche in Denver. He has worked with Lane Kiffin several times in the past and led the Tigers to the 2019 national title.
