ALL LANES OF I-64 BRIDGE OVER WABASH RIVER TO CLOSE FOR EMERGENCY REPAIRS NEXT WEEK

The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that all lanes of the Interstate 64 bridge over the Wabash River near Grayville will be closed for emergency repairs next week.

The closure is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26th and Wednesday, May 27th. If inclement weather delays the work, repairs will be rescheduled for the nights of May 27 and 28.

During the closure, posted detours will guide eastbound traffic via Illinois Route 130 and Illinois Route 1, while westbound drivers will be directed to use the Indiana 65 exit at milepost 18.

This marks the second round of emergency repairs for the bridge in recent weeks. An emergency inspection and repairs were completed just a month ago, but the bridge deck has continued to deteriorate, resulting in large potholes and rough pavement.

The twin bridges over the Wabash are currently being replaced as part of a $136 million project. The westbound span has already been demolished, and all traffic is currently using the remaining eastbound bridge in a two-way traffic pattern.
