Yesterday’s game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds was postponed due to inclement weather at Great American Ball Park. The game will be made up in a split doubleheader on August 17th. Matthew Liberatore starts for the Cardinals against the Brewers this afternoon in Milwaukee.

The Chicago Cubs surrendered five runs in the top of the fifth during an 8-5 loss to the Houston Astros at Wrigley Field. Michael Busch homered in the losing effort, while Shota Imanaga was charged with his fifth loss after giving up seven runs on seven hits in six innings. The Northsiders are in third place in the NL Central at 29-and-24. They send Ben Brown to the mound against the Pirates today. The Chicago Cubs are down another star pitcher. The team placed starter Edward Cabrera on the 15-day injured list over the weekend. Cabrera is dealing with a blister on his middle finger. The 28-year-old is 3-and-2 with a 4.00 ERA in ten starts this season. The Northsiders called up left-hander Jordan Wicks from Iowa in a corresponding move.

San Francisco Giants 8, Chicago White Sox 5
The Chicago White Sox dropped the rubber match of their series against the San Francisco Giants 8-5 at Oracle Park. The Southsiders allowed four runs in the bottom of the fifth and trailed the rest of the way. Chase Meidroth and Miguel Vargas both homered in the losing effort, and Noah Schultz was charged with the loss after giving up six runs on six hits in four frames. The Sox are in second place in the AL Central at 26-and-26. They send Anthony Kay to the mound against Minnesota this afternoon.

(Houston, TX) — The St. Louis Battlehawks avenged their week eight loss with a 21-15 win over the Houston Gamblers at Shell Energy Stadium. Luis Perez passed for 239 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the victory. The Battlehawks are in second place in the UFL at 6-and-3. They host the Dallas Renegades in the season finale on Friday.

(Undated) — The Western Conference Finals between the Spurs and Thunder is heading back to Oklahoma City tied up through the first four games. Victor Wembanyama and San Antonio took down the Thunder 103-82 in Game Four at the Frost Bank Center. The defending champion Thunder will now host Game Five on Tuesday. The NBA postseason continues Monday with the New York Knicks looking to complete a four-game sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.

(Undated) — The three All-NBA teams were announced on Sunday. League MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Thunder and Nuggets center Nikola Jokic were unanimously selected, while Spurs center Victor Wembanyama, Lakers guard Luka Doncic and Pistons guard Cade Cunningham rounded out the First Team. Wembanyama missed being a unanimous selection by one vote. Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell, Celtics forward Jaylen Brown, Rockets forward Kevin Durant and Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard make up the Second Team. The Third Team consists of 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey, Nuggets guard Jamal Murray, Hawks forward Jalen Johnson, Thunder center Chet Holmgren and Pistons center Jalen Duren.

(Undated) — The Vegas Golden Knights scored five unanswered goals to beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-3 and take a commanding 3-0 lead in the Western Conference Final. Monday, the Eastern Conference Final shifts north of the border as the Montreal Canadiens will host the Carolina Hurricanes in a game three of their own. The series is tied at a game apiece.

(Speedway, IN) — Swedish Driver Felix Rosenqvist edged David Malukas to win the Indianapolis 500. The nail-biter finish followed a rain-delay and a crash that knocked two-time winner Josef Newgarden out of the race. A crowd of more than 300-thousand braved light rain and occasional drizzle to watch the dramatic finish. It’s the first Indy 500 win for Rosenqvist.

(McKinney, TX) — Wyndham Clark is celebrating his fourth Tour victory after winning the CJ CUP Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch. Clark finished atop the leaderboard by three strokes after shooting a 30 under par. Si Woo Kim finished second at 27 under. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler finished in third at 25 under par. Jackson Suber was fourth at 23 under and Keith Mitchell finished fifth at 22 under par.

(Concord, NC) — Daniel Suarez celebrated a victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Suarez won the Coca-Cola 600 after the race was called due to weather. The driver of the number seven car led for 17 laps. Christopher Bell came in second, followed by Denny Hamlin, Tyler Reddick and Kyle Larson to round out the remainder of the top five. The Cup Series shifts to Nashville next week.

(Paris) — The first day of the French Open is officially in the books. Second-seeded Alexander Zverev and third-seeded Novak Djokovic were the highest-ranked players to advance to the second round on the men’s side. America Nishesh Basavareddy pulled off an upset win over seventh-seed and fellow American Taylor Fritz in four sets. On the women’s side, eighth-seeded Mirra Andreeva cruised to a win, while 11th-seed Belinda Bencic and 15th-seed Marta Kostyuk also advanced. 26th-seed Hailey Baptiste, Peyton Stearns, Katie Volynets and Catherine McNally were the American women that punched their ticket into the second round. The action at Roland Garros continues on Monday.
