>>NBA Approves Major Anti-Tanking Lottery Changes

(Undated) — The NBA is approving new anti-tanking reforms to its draft lottery system. The league announced its Board of Governors voted to expand the lottery from 14 teams to 16 teams beginning next season. The new “three-two-one lottery” reduces the odds for the league’s three worst teams while increasing incentives for teams competing near the playoff and play-in cutoff. The changes also prevent teams from winning the top overall pick in consecutive years or receiving three straight top-five selections. League officials say the overhaul follows concerns that several teams were intentionally losing games late this season to improve lottery positioning.

New York selected Sadiq with the 16th overall pick.

The players union has long opposed any salary cap and has rejected similar offers in the past. Baseball’s current collective bargaining agreement expires in December 2026.
