An accident at the Jaycee Lake spillway north of Mt. Vernon, IL early Thursday night injured a woman from Ohio who was visiting family.

Reports out of Marion County say 19 year old Dana Peters lost her balance and fell about 15 to 20 feet from a concrete beam support structure to shallow water in the spillway below.

Officials from Jefferson Fire and Mt. Vernon City Fire had to attach a rope to a basket to lift the woman from a steep ravine.  She was taken to a St. Louis hospital for treatment of her injuries.  Fire officials said they weren’t sure how the woman got onto the beam support.  Family members reported she was sitting on the beam when she fell, landed in shallow water and was moved by family members to the ravine.
