A bridge replacement project will result in the closure of Wells Bypass Road near Veterans Drive beginning today (Monday, June 1st) according to Jefferson County officials.

The closure is expected to remain in place for approximately 30 working days while construction crews complete the project.

Motorists are being urged to plan ahead and use alternate routes during the construction period. Officials said a designated detour route has been established to help direct traffic around the work zone.
The Jefferson County Highway Department said the bridge replacement is the first phase of planned safety improvements along Wells Bypass Road.

Future improvements are expected to include roadway widening, paving, and intersection upgrades near Mount Vernon Township High School. Those projects are currently scheduled for the summer of 2027.

County officials are asking motorists to use caution near the construction area and follow all posted detour signs.
