MT. CARMEL MAN DIES FOLLOWING GRAIN BIN INCIDENT IN WABASH COUNTY

A 21-year-old Mt. Carmel man died Monday after becoming trapped in a grain bin in rural Wabash County.

According to the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office, Wabash County 911 received a call at approximately 9:24 a.m. reporting that three men were trapped in a grain bin near Friendsville Avenue and North 1550 Boulevard.

Emergency responders from the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office, Mt. Carmel Police Department, Mt. Carmel Fire Department, Wabash General EMS, and Patoka Township Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.

Authorities said two of the three individuals were able to escape the grain bin after crews arrived. Rescue personnel then spent several hours working to free the remaining victim.

At approximately 1:01 p.m., rescuers extricated the man from the grain bin. Wabash County Coroner, Shaun Keepes later pronounced 21-year-old Steven D. Haase of Mt. Carmel deceased.

No additional information has been released, and the incident remains under investigation.
