FLOOD WATCH ISSUED FOR SOUTHERN ILLINOIS THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING

By Mark Wells Jun 8, 2026 | 6:00 AM

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Flood Watch for much of Southern Illinois beginning at 11 a.m. today and continuing through Tuesday morning.

The watch includes Edwards, Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jefferson, Johnson, Perry, Pope, Saline, Wabash, Wayne, White, and Williamson counties.

Forecasters say flash flooding is possible as multiple rounds of thunderstorms move across the region. Repeated storms could produce heavy rainfall totals of 3 to 4 inches, with locally higher amounts possible.

Excessive rainfall may lead to flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying or flood-prone areas.

Residents are encouraged to monitor the latest weather forecasts and be prepared to take action if Flash Flood Warnings are issued. Motorists should never attempt to drive through flooded roadways and should use caution during periods of heavy rain.
