Wayne County Highway Superintendent Dennis Seidel sought board approval for a contract to construct a bridge in Bedford Township, a project estimated at $512,743. Wayne County State’s Attorney, Kyle Ellis and Circuit Clerk, Ellen Sitzes were absent, and no reports from their offices were presented.
Sheriff Chris Otey reported that his department is managing as best as possible despite budget constraints brought on by rising fuel prices. Mandatory training and recertification for deputies, as well as multiple recent prison transfers, were noted. Additionally, Otey shared that a company recently evaluated the jail’s gutters, which are in need of repair due to significant wear and tear.
Supervisor of Assessments Jodi Poole was present as the board entered executive session. Afterward, it was decided that Poole and several board members would assist in hiring additional help to address ongoing assessment issues. The board will also seek a contract to assist with these and other mapping concerns.
The Building and Grounds Committee reported that payment for Phase 16 of the courthouse’s HVAC installation is due, with a motion expected to approve another $29,000 for the project, ensuring continued comfort for courthouse staff and visitors.
The next regular meeting of the Wayne County Board is scheduled for July 2nd.
