The southern Illinois woman charged in the shooting death of her husband is asking the court to move her trial to a different county.

Court filings show that attorneys for Megan Valentine filed a motion on Tuesday requesting a change of venue.

Valentine was arrested in November 2024 after her husband, Michael Valentine, was found dead at their home in Albion.
Authorities allege that Megan Valentine shot and killed her husband. Michael Valentine was a well-known figure in the region, having served as Edwards County Resident Circuit Judge since 2016 and previously as Edwards County State’s Attorney for eight years.

The case has generated widespread public interest due to Valentine’s long-standing role in public service and the serious nature of the charges.

No ruling has been made on the change of venue request, and the court has not yet scheduled a hearing on the matter.
