The St. Louis Cardinals opened up their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 3-2 win from Busch Stadium. Alec Burleson, Nathan Church, and Blaze Jordan all drove in a run in the victory, while Andre Pallante earned his ninth win after allowing one run on six hits in six innings. The Cardinals are in second place in the NL Central at 42-and-34. They send Kyle Leahy to the mound against Arizona tonight.
Chicago Cubs at New York Mets (Postponed)
Yesterday’s scheduled game between the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets was postponed due to inclement weather at Citi Field. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader tomorrow. In the meantime, the Cubs and Mets will begin their series tonight. Edward Cabrera starts for the Northsiders. First pitch is at 6:10PM. (Brooklyn, NY) — The NBA draft is finally here. Some of the brightest college stars in recent draft class history will hear their names called in Brooklyn on Tuesday. The attention shifted squarely to the picks after the Giannis Antetokounmpo [[ YAHN-iss ah-dedo-KOON-bo ]] domino fell late Monday night. The linchpin keeping the previous draft order intact was traded from the Bucks to the Heat in a blockbuster deal that landed Milwaukee three first-round picks, including 13th-overall. Washington has the top selection and faces a tough a choice between Kansas crafty guard Darryn Peterson and BYU forward phenom AJ Dybantsa [[ dee-BAHN-sah ]]. The Jazz, Grizzlies, Bulls and Clippers round out the top-five selections.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Bulls are adding to their front court. The team acquired Nets center Nic Claxton in a three-team deal yesterday. The Bulls haven’t announced what they are sending back to either Brooklyn or Minnesota to complete the deal. Claxton is entering his eighth NBA season. He averaged 11-point-seven points and six-point-nine rebounds in 69 games last year. In other team news, Chicago is slated to pick at number four and number 15 in the NBA Draft tonight.

(Undated) — A deal has been made on the eve of the NBA draft. According to ESPN, the Minnesota Timberwolves are sending Julius Randle and the number 28 pick in the draft to the Brooklyn Nets in a three-team trade with the Chicago Bulls. Brooklyn is sending Nic Claxton to Chicago and Minnesota is acquiring the 33rd overall pick. Randle was selected with the seventh pick in the 2014 draft by the Lakers. He has also spent time with the Pelicans and Knicks.

(Undated) — The Wizards will sign guard Trae Young to a four-year deal. ESPN’s Shams Charania reports its worth approximately 212 million dollars. Young played just five games for Washington last season, putting up 15.2 points and six-point-two assists per game after being acquired from the Atlanta Hawks. He declined his $49 million player option, which would have made him a free agent for the first time in his career.

(Undated) — The Mavericks went to the college ranks to find their new head coach. ESPN is reporting that Dallas is finalizing a deal to hire Michigan’s Dusty May as the franchise’s next head coach. The 49-year-old led Michigan to the national title in 2026 and went 64-and-13 overall in two seasons in Ann Arbor. May becomes the first college head coach to take an NBA job since former Michigan coach John Beilein [[ bee-line ]] was hired by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2019. He will take over a team that is led by star forward Cooper Flagg, who will be entering his second NBA season after winning the Rookie of the Year award.

(Las Vegas, NV) — An NBA team could be right around the corner for Sin City. Vegas Golden Knights founder and majority owner Bill Foley announced that he is launching a bid to bring an NBA team to Las Vegas. The news comes after the NBA’s board of governors approved a vote in late March to explore bids and applicants for expansion franchises exclusively in Las Vegas and Seattle. ESPN reports that all 30 NBA owners voted in favor of exploring those cities and that the bidding process is expected to generate offers in the seven-billion to 10-billion-dollar range. The press release said Foley plans on having the would-be team play at T-Mobile Arena.

(Cincinnati, OH) — A star shortstop on the Reds is almost back from injury. The team expects Elly De La Cruz to return from a strained right hamstring against the Brewers on Tuesday. He took batting practice on Monday and already made three rehab starts with Triple-A Louisville. De La Cruz was hitting .280 with 12 home runs to go with 37 RBIs before getting hurt late last month.

(Philadelphia, PA) — The Phillies are tossing their pitching staff into a blender. The team recalled Alan Rangel from Triple-A and reinstated Kyle Backhus from the 15-day injured list on Monday. Rangel made 11 starts for the IronPigs this season while Backhus recovered from an elbow issue. In a pair of following moves, the Phils optioned Max Lazar to Lehigh Valley and designated Bryce Wilson for assignment. Both relievers have struggled this year.

The Florida native chose the Fighting Irish over other finalists Miami and Oregon. Jones is the son of former Fighting Irish running back Julius Jones Sr., who played at the school from 1999 to 2003 before an seven-year NFL career. His younger brother, Andre, a four-star safety in the 2028 class, has also announced his commitment to Notre Dame. Jones Jr. is ESPN’s ninth-ranked receiver and 50th-ranked overall recruit in the 2027 cycle.

Power forward Keith Tkachuk [[ KUH-chuhk ]] headlines the class alongside longtime Boston Bruin Patrice Bergeron, and goaltenders Carey Price and Pekka Rinne. An all-time Blues legend is heading to the Hockey Hall of Fame. Forward Keith Tkachuk was selected to be inducted into the class of 2026 yesterday. Tkachuk spent nine seasons with the Blues. He finished his tenure with 208 goals and 219 assists in 543 games with St. Louis. He’s the 27th player in franchise history to make the Hockey Hall of Fame. Tkachuk recorded over 11-hundred points in over 12-hundred games, and helped Team USA win the World Cup of Hockey in 1996. Bergeron is a Stanley Cup champion, Olympic gold medalist, and six-time Selke Trophy winner. Price played his entire career with the Montreal Canadiens where he won the Hart Trophy, Vezina Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award in 2015. Rinne spent 15 seasons with the Nashville Predators winning the Vezina in 2018. US women’s hockey star Cindy Curley and executive Brian Burke are also being inducted.

(Lake Forest, IL) — The Chicago Bears begin training camp in a little over a month. The NFL announced the training camp start dates for every team yesterday. Chicago’s rookies will report on July 25th. Full-squad workouts will get underway on July 28th.

(Undated) — The NFL on Monday announced training camp reporting dates and locations for all 32 teams. The Colts will have rookies report to Westfield on July 27th with veterans arriving the next day.
