The Chicago White Sox are in sole possession of first place in the AL Central following a 2-1 win over the Cleveland Guardians at Rate Field. Miguel Vargas hit a go-ahead solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to put Chicago up for good. Sean Burke earned his fifth win after holding Cleveland to one run on six hits in six-and-a-third innings. The Southsiders improved to 41-and-37. Chicago sends Erick Fedde to the mound against Cleveland this afternoon.

The St. Louis Cardinals surrendered four runs in the top of the ninth during a 4-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Busch Stadium. The game was scoreless entering the ninth before Matt Svanson imploded and was charged with his second loss in relief. The Cardinals scored three times in the bottom of the ninth, but JJ Wetherholt struck out with the tying run on first to end the game. St. Louis remains in second place in the NL Central at 42-and-35. Matthew Liberatore starts for the Cardinals against Arizona tonight.

Chicago Cubs 9, New York Mets 6
The Cubs took down the Mets 9-6 in Queens. Edward Cabrera picked up the win after striking out four batters over five frames. Pete Crow-Armstrong launched a three-run blast, and Dansby Swanson went deep with a two-run shot. Chicago has now won three of its last four games. The Northsiders are in third place in the NL Central at 41-and-37. They have a doubleheader against the Mets today. In other Cubs news, Edward Cabrera was placed on the 15-day injured list with a leg injury yesterday.

>>Blues Trade Away Kyrou

(St. Louis, MO) — The St. Louis Blues are parting ways with their best player. The team traded forward Jordan Kyrou to the Washington Capitals yesterday. St. Louis received forwards Connor McMichael and Milton Gastrin to go along with the 16th overall pick of the NHL Draft. Kyrou spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Blues. He had 18 goals and 28 assists in 72 games last year.

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Blackhawks are taking a big swing. The team traded for Buffalo defenseman Bowen Byram and forward Jordan Greenway yesterday. The Hawks sent the fourth and 45th overall picks in the 2026 NHL Draft along with defenseman Louis Crevier back to Buffalo to complete the deal. Byram had 11 goals and 31 assists in 82 games with the Sabres last season.

(Brooklyn, NY) — The first round of the NBA draft is in the books. The Wizards selected AJ Dybantsa [[ dee-BAHN-sah ]] with the first-overall pick. The fearless forward became the only player in BYU history to go Number-1 in the draft. The Jazz nabbed Kansas backcourt stud Darryn Peterson with the second pick while the Grizzlies grabbed Duke paint patroller Cameron Boozer at third-overall. North Carolina’s Caleb Wilson and Illinois’ Keaton Wagler went to the Bulls and Clippers to round out the top-five selections. Round Two continues from Brooklyn on Wednesday with the defending champion Knicks on the clock.

(Brooklyn, NY) — The Chicago Bulls added a pair of future cornerstones to their roster yesterday. Chicago selected UNC forward Caleb Wilson with the fourth overall pick of the NBA Draft yesterday, and they added Texas guard Dailyn Swain at pick 15. Wilson averaged 19-point-eight points and nine-point-four rebounds in 24 games with the Tar Heels last season, while Swain averaged 17-point-three points in 36 contests. The Bulls are slated to pick twice in the second round today.

(Atlanta, GA) — The Falcons are locking-down their dynamic tight end. The team signed Kyle Pitts to a three-year extension worth 54-million dollars. ESPN reports 36-million is fully guaranteed. The 25-year-old is now the third-highest paid player in his position and was slated to make just over 15-million dollars on the franchise tag this upcoming season. Pitts had almost 90 catches for more than 900 yards last year.

>>Geno Smith Under Investigation By Police

(Undated) — One member of the Jets is dealing with some off the field issues. Police in Davie, Florida said Tuesday that quarterback Geno Smith is being investigated for an incident in which a woman accused him of battery. Officers were summoned to Smith’s home on Sunday after a woman claimed she was assaulted by him. Since the investigation is active no additional information will be released at this time.

>>Royals’ Ragans Likely To Have Elbow Surgery

(Undated) — The Royals are likely to be without their ace for the remainder of the season. Kansas City starting pitcher Cole Ragans is expected to undergo surgery to fix a left elbow impingement that has sidelined him since early May. Royals manager Matt Quatraro said that Ragans will see another doctor this week to determine what type of surgery the two-time All-Star needs and how long he will be sidelined. The 28-year-old has been out since leaving his start on May 6th and had a setback after a rehab start earlier this month. Ragans has been limited to 21 starts over the past two seasons due to injuries.

(Pittsburgh, PA) — The Pirates are hoping their promising young shortstop will return to the lineup soon. Konnor Griffin is expected to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Altoona on Wednesday. The rookie hasn’t played this month after suffering a forearm strain. Griffin was hitting .270 with four home runs to go with 22 RBIs in 51 games before getting hurt. The 20-year-old signed a nine-year, 140-million-dollar deal back in April.

(Undated) — The Sharks are moving on from one of their top forwards and a pair of prospects. San Jose has traded left winger William Eklund, prospect winger Kasper Halttunen [[ HAHL-tuh-nuhn ]] and the rights to prospect forward Brandon Svoboda to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for the ninth overall pick in this week’s NHL Draft. The 23-year-old Eklund was the seventh overall pick in 2021 and totaled 50 goals and 113 assists through 252 games played. San Jose now holds the second, ninth and 27th picks in the first round.

>>NHL Exploring Austin, Houston For Expansion Team

(Undated) — A second NHL franchise could be coming to the Lone Star state. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said that the league is exploring putting a new team in Texas, with Austin and Houston as the potential targets. Bettman told reporters that the NHL has entered an agreement with the Friedkin family, who has roughly six months to investigate if a team is possible in one of the two cities. The agreed investment for the Friedkin family is 3.5-billion-dollars, which includes an expansion fee as well as building costs for an NHL arena. The league currently has 32 teams and most recently added the Seattle Kraken, who debuted in the 2021-22 season.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a pair of goals to lead Portugal to a dominant 5-0 win over Uzbekistan in the first match of the day in Houston. In afternoon action, England played to a scoreless draw against Ghana in Foxborough, while Croatia eliminated Panama from knockout round contention with a 1-0 victory in Toronto. The day was capped off with Colombia taking down the Democratic Republic of the Congo 1-0 in Guadalajara. Play continues with six matches Wednesday. Qatar plays Bosnia-Herzegovina, Canada takes on Switzerland, Morocco battles Haiti, Brazil faces Scotland, Mexico challenges Czechia, and South Korea goes up against South Africa.
