The White Sox failed to sweep the Guardians following a 4-3 loss in 10 innings at home. Braden Montgomery and Randal Grichuk slugged ninth-inning homers for Chicago, which has dropped four-of-six. The Sox host the Royals tomorrow night.

The Cardinals fell to the Diamondbacks 9-4 at home. Matthew Liberatore gave up six runs on eight hits over five-plus innings. St. Louis has dropped back-to-back games and will try to split the four-game set tonight.

The Cubs scored 20 runs to claim both games of their doubleheader over the Mets. The team earned a 10-3 win in Game One and followed up with 10-5 victory in the nightcap. Chicago has won three straight and will try to sweep the four-game road-series tonight. The Cubbies are trying to piece together a depleted starting rotation. The team placed Ben Brown and Edward Cabrera on the 15-day injured list yesterday. Cabrera is dealing with a hamstring strain while Brown has a stiff neck. Meanwhile, the Cubs are adding to their rotation in response to the IL moves. According to ESPN, Chicago is acquiring left-hander David Peterson from the Mets. New York will be receiving minor league infielder Cole Mathis in exchange.

(St. Louis, MO) — The St. Louis Cardinals are making a significant change to their front office. The team elevated Bill DeWitt-the-Third to chief executive officer yesterday. He was serving as the team president after taking over the role in 2008.

(Tampa, FL) — Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold is under arrest in Florida after a warrant was issued in connection with an alleged robbery and kidnapping in Tampa. The Florida state attorney’s office said Arnold faces multiple felony charges that could carry a potential life sentence. Investigators accuse him of coordinating with other individuals to lure three men to an apartment, where they were beaten, robbed, and held at gunpoint. Arnold had earlier reported to police that 200-thousand dollars in personal items was stolen from an Airbnb he owned, and officials say he began planning retaliation within hours. He and four codefendants are now in jail without bond, while two others have already pleaded guilty in the case. Arnold was an All-American at Alabama, and was the 24th pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

(Jacksonville, FL) — The Jaguars are rewarding one of their young offensive playmakers. ESPN reports the team extended Brenton Strange to a three-year deal worth up to 48-million dollars. The contract includes 25-million in guaranteed money. Strange emerged as Jacksonville’s top tight end last season with 540 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games. He was taken in the second round of the 2023 draft.

(Brooklyn, NY) — The NBA draft is over. Day Two wrapped up from Brooklyn on Wednesday with the Rockets adding Ohio State guard Bruce Thornton to begin the second and final round. The Grizzlies followed up by grabbing BYU guard Richie Saunders with the 32nd pick and the Timberwolves acquired Isaiah Evans out of Duke. The attention now quickly shifts to free agency, which begins on Tuesday.

(Undated) — The Pistons are moving on from a member of their front court. According to ESPN, Detroit is trading backup big man Isaiah Stewart to the Memphis Grizzlies for three future second round picks. Stewart finished seventh in the Sixth Man of the Year voting after averaging 10 points and five rebounds off the bench. The 25-year-old has two years and 30-million-dollars remaining on his contract, which also has a team option for 2027-28.

(Buffalo, NY) — The NHL draft begins tomorrow when round one gets underway in Buffalo. The Red Wings do not have a first round pick. Detroit will have to wait until Saturday to make its first pick of the draft in the second round.

(Pittsburgh, PA) — The Pittsburgh Penguins are officially changing ownership. The NHL Board of Governors announced Tuesday it unanimously approved the sale of the franchise to the Hoffmann Family of Companies. Geoff Hoffmann, who will serve as the team’s governor, says the group is honored to take stewardship of one of the league’s premier organizations. The Penguins had been owned by Fenway Sports Group since acquiring the team in 2021. The transaction is expected to officially close soon.

The final round of the group stage began with Switzerland topping Canada in Vancouver, while Bosnia-Herzegovina took down Qatar in Seattle. Elsewhere, Morocco survived Haiti in Atlanta and Brazil beat Scotland in Miami. The night wrapped up with South Africa squeaking past South Korea in Guadalupe, and Mexico shutting out Czechia in Mexico City. 12 teams are in action on Thursday. Ivory Coast faces Curacao in Philadelphia, Germany battles Ecuador in East Rutherford, Japan takes on Sweden in Arlington, the Netherlands meets Tunisia in Kansas City, Australia and Paraguay face off in Santa Clara, and the United States plays Turkey in Inglewood.
