A Flood Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service in Paducah for a large portion of southern Illinois, including Edwards, Hamilton, Jefferson, Wabash, Wayne, and White counties, effective from this afternoon through Saturday morning. The National Weather Service warns that flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
Meteorologists report that multiple rounds of thunderstorms are expected through Friday night. These storms could bring repeated heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of flash flooding in rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone locations. Officials caution that low-water crossings may also be flooded.
Residents are urged to monitor later forecasts and remain alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be ready to take action should flooding develop. For more information on flood safety, visit weather.gov/safety/flood.
